Folks at the north end of Lac Heney are looking for a new 10 by 16 wooden dock with black floats. There is also a ramp sitting on top of the dock.

It is with immense regret that we learned of the death of Ms. Chantal Proulx, which occurred on March 28. In addition to this very sad event that her passing constitutes for her loved ones, and in particular for her husband Dave and for her daughter Danielle, Chantal’s passing is an inestimable loss for our Association and for the Heney Lake Foundation. Since 1999, she has tirelessly occupied various positions as a member of the Boards of Directors of these two organizations. Here is a brief overview.

In 2003, Chantal was elected vice-president of the Association while the latter was involved in a class action against the Quebec government regarding damage caused to the lake by a fish farm. In 2004, she used her talents as a lawyer to lead the incorporation of the Foundation set up to manage funds received from the government following an agreement in mediation regarding the class action. She subsequently, as president, then treasurer of the Foundation, acted as legal advisor in the affairs, not only of the Foundation, but also of the Association, until very shortly before her death.

Those who had the chance to know Chantal and work with her for the well-being of the lake over the last quarter of a century have lost not only a colleague, but also a friend.

On behalf of the Boards of Directors and members of the Watershed Association and the Heney Lake Foundation, we would like to offer Dave, Danielle and their loved ones our most sincere condolences.

A Celebration of Life will be held later this spring/early summer.

The Bassin Versant du Lac Heney Watershed association contributes to the well-being of our community in protecting our lakes and their watershed: lake Desormeaux, Barbue, Noir and Vert.

The things you like to do on the lake, whether it is swimming, fishing, boating, hiking or just sitting on the dock, all depend on the quality of the water in the watershed lakes and the environment.

Your membership supports your volunteer board’s efforts to keep you informed of new developments such as mining claims, monitoring the quality of our lakes and advocate for policies supporting responsible use, protection, and enjoyment on your behalf and all of the watershed property owners.

The BVLH is looking for a volunteer to take up the important role of a Bay Captain co-ordinator.
If you are interested in helping out you can contact us at info@bvlacheney.ca. The list of duties
and approximate time commitment are listed below.

• Liaison between the Board and Bay Captains – Serve as the main point of contact for Bay Captains, providing ongoing support, guidance, and feedback. Keep volunteers informed about upcoming events, opportunities, and organizational updates.
• Recruitment – Actively recruit volunteers through various channels such as online platforms, community events, and networking to ensure a sufficient pool of Bay Captains
• Orientation and Training – Organize orientation sessions to introduce Bay Captains to the organization’s mission, policies, and procedures. Provide training and resources to equip Bay Captains with the skills necessary for their roles. 

It is estimated that the Bay Captain Co-ordinator will contribute 8-10 hours per month during the peak “cottage season” and 4-6 hours per month the rest of the year.

The Association has been asked to share details of a local initiative to encourage the paving of Chemin du Lac Desmormeaux. These improvements will reduce erosion and improve conditions for all users. The Board encourages people to read the petition and sign if they agree.

Over time, Chemin du Lac Désormeaux, a municipal road, has experienced erosion. While the section of the road belonging to Lac Ste Marie is well-paved, the portion on the Gracefield side poses a danger. In 2023, the sand used to cover the road did not meet Gracefield’s standards, leading to a formal complaint. Unfortunately, this clay-like sand worsened the road conditions, creating a slippery surface when wet and a dusty cloud when dry. These hazardous conditions have prompted the City of Gracefield to seek additional funds from Transport Quebec for paving, but the request was denied.

Our petition seeks to advocate for the improvement of Chemin du Lac Désormeaux by paving the entire 6.4-kilometer stretch from Lac Ste Marie to Chemin du Poisson Blanc. By gathering signatures from all road users, including locals, cottagers, visitors, and residents of neighboring towns, we aim to present a strong case to Transport Quebec with the support of Gracefield and the road’s users. Paving this road will enhance safety, reduce accidents, and minimize wear and tear on vehicles.
